Bush to Veto GI Bill

Memorial Day is the day that we honor men and women who have died to protect this country. Did you know that Memorial Day started after the Civil War? General Logan, a Union soldier, had been impressed with how the South had honored their dead. Memorial Day was called Decoration Day until after World War II.

I remember my Mom and Dad calling it Decoration Day. When I was growing up, it was a pretty big holiday. There was always a parade. Then we would go to the cemetary and lay flowers on everyone grave. We would have a picnic and later that evening, there would be fireworks at the city park. That has gone by the wayside though. We dont celebrate it like we did.

America's Problems Are Psychological

John McCain is telling that America's problems are psychological. Well, the Ohio Democratic Party decided to ask the average person on the street what they thought.

What do you think?

Pay Off Those Credit Cards!

The subprime loan had put a crimp in financial institutions bottom line. Never fear! These corporations have found a way to bail themselves out.

Hundreds of thousands of Capital One and Bank of America cardholders have been notified in recent months that their interest rates are going up -- in some cases to as much as 28% -- even though they haven't been missing payments.

Texas Hits The Big Time!

You all know by now what happened on “Super Tuesday”. Things are up in the air and there was no clear winner. It looks like we are going to hear a lot from our presidential candidates until March 4th. Our votes will matter. I did a literature search, and here is some articles of interest I found.

Smiles Chase Fears Away

Being in the hospital can be an uncomfortable experience. For kids, it can be terrifying. I love seeing when healthcare providers think outside box.

Have you ever endured an endless wait to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or physical therapist? Well, imagine a crowd pressing in to reach a medical student, student nurse or therapist-in-training. Each one in line excitedly is waiting his or her turn for the prescription of the day — a handmade balloon animal.

House Fails to Overturn Bush Veto on Children's Health Insurance

Well, it was a long shot.

Too bad that Bush hasn't learned from it. He still thinks that his word is law.

Bush has indicated he is not willing to accept a bill that goes beyond his initial $5 billion expansion over five years. The president and GOP leaders say the vetoed measure would have pushed millions of children already covered by private health insurance into publicly financed health care. They say it would also create an "entitlement" whose costs would outstrip the money raised by the bill's 61-cent increase in the federal tobacco tax.

CHIP Veto Protest!

Bush’s veto of the CHIP funding increase has really gotten some of us in Galveston County riled. Nick Lampson, one of our congresspersons voted yes. Ron Paul, of course voted no. So we are going to have a protest this Monday. The Daily News will be there to cover it. I want to invite everyone to join us if you can.

A Letter From Judge Susan Criss

Judge Criss is running for Supreme Court Justice, Position 8. She has been a great judge for our county. She is by the book and when you enter her court you can be assured of a fair trial. She sent out a letter and I am posting it with her permission. If you ever get a chance to hear her speak do it. She is really inspirational. And she is not boring.

Rick Perry for Vice-President

I found this link on “Kiss My Big Blue Butt”

Giuliani / Perry '08?

Some choice bits.

Giuliani has also developed a bond with Texas Gov. Rick Perry, whom he helped win re-election last year. That groundwork could make Perry a high-profile ally in Texas, although the governor hasn't yet endorsed a presidential candidate.
